In 1930, the couple opened a bakery called Roti Muncul. In the same year, Ibu Rakhmat Sulistio began formulating the jamu now known as Tolak Angin. Silybum marianum, one of the ingredients, commonly known as milk thistle, is a flowering plant native to the Mediterranean region and is now widely cultivated around the world. It has been used for centuries as a herbal remedy, particularly for liver disorders. The active ingredient in milk thistle is silymarin, a complex of flavonoids that has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and hepatoprotective properties. Milk thistle is believed to support liver health by promoting the regeneration of liver cells, protecting against toxins and oxidative stress, and aiding in detoxification processes.
