Agave syrup is a liquid sweetener, similar to sugar syrup or honey, made from the sap of the blue agave plant. It is high in fructose (fruit sugar) and low in glucose. Use it in place of sugar or honey in cooking, baking, smoothies or drinks.
Agave has a low GI value, less than half that of honey or sugar, and doesn’t spike blood sugar levels after eating, so it’s often called a “diabetic-friendly” sweetener.
